i wasn’t even supposed to see him today. just a regular check-up, just another name on my schedule. but the second he walked into the room, i could feel it. the way his eyes lingered on me, how his smile flickered every time i looked at him. i pretended to stay focused, asking the usual questions, but my heart was pounding so loud i could barely hear myself talk.
he leaned in a little closer when he spoke, and i swear the air between us shifted. thick with something unspoken. i caught him staring when i bent down to grab something from the cabinet, and when i met his gaze, it was like neither of us could breathe.
he told me i looked beautiful. just like that. no hesitation.
i laughed it off at first, but the way he said it, the way his voice dropped just a little lower, it sent a shiver right through me.
for a second, the whole world shrank to just the space between us.
